We had to deliver a friend to the Dowagiac Amtrak station at about dinner time, so we chose the Wounded Minnow for its proximity to the station. The decision was one of convenience, so we had no preconceived notions about what to expect. Oh, were we surprised. The service, menu and food all exceeded expectations. The ambience is unexceptional, but that seems to support the charm of the joint. The only meaningful ding is that the high-top booth seat was really uncomfortable. Our server, James, was knowledgeable, fast, efficient and found just the right balance between attentiveness and respect for privacy. He had recommendations when asked and proved to be an exceptional guide. The beer selection on tap had too many IPA's for my taste, but the bottle selection more than made up for it. I found one of my favorites (Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald) and my companions were very happy with the mixology. We were expecting bar food, and ended up ordering just that - Nachos and Pizza. The menu had a peach pork chop that I wanted to order, but didn't have the appetite. We referred a friend to the Wounded Minnow later in the week and he split the pork chop with his dining partner - raving about the selection. That will be my choice when we return - soon, I'm sure.

Sat at the bar on a Sunday afternoon. Service was very good. Ordered a mushroom swiss burger and they didn't ask how to cook it. Luckily we didn't get a well done burger for someone who prefers medium at the most. The cod basket was small but tasty. Salad bar was well stocked and fresh, but they bring your dressing. The blue cheese dressing was so thin. I swear the milk I had at breakfast was thicker. If you thin out the dressing, don't. If you don't thin it out, consider a brand switch. We'd still go back , but no salad for us.

The waiter was great, lots of ice in drinks. James M. Was great, great service, super kind. Beer was fresh. The outdoor seating is great; lots of bugs, though. Food was great, burger was great, well cooked and delicious. Must Have if you’re visiting. Pizza hard to cut, though.

Just happened to be there on Dyngus Day and they had a Polish buffet. It was AWESOME! My husband was almost in tears over the noodles tasting just like his mom made. I love the atmosphere in this place!
